Well, I think he might be saying he's curious how to get started without having to run the server himself.
To go about this, you're probably just going to need some minimal virtual hosting. There are literally thousands of companies out there that provide this. Personally I'd recommend liquidweb.com for virtual hosting, their pretty fair and offer good support. Although, their packages could possibly be more than you need for you're site. Just look around, you'll find one.
From there, you should get some pretty detailed instructions on how to go about this. You won't need to install anything unless you'd like to do all the testing locally. The most logical thing to be though, would be to setup some type of program, Dreamweaver does it for example, to upload your files on each save, for debugging and testing. This is all done via FTP, which I'm not sure if you're real familar with. It's not as hard as it all sounds.
Once you get the hosting, just dive right in. First things first, try
<? echo "Hello World."; ?>
😉
Good Luck, if you need any more help don't be afraid to ask. I'm on AIM if you have any real specific questions.
