Just started to happen: Error 1148

I have been using PHPmyadmin with mysql thru my hosting service
for about a year now. I have had no problems. Just last week, I
was making a few tables under a new database, and uploaded a txt file.
It returned error: 1148.

After reading and researching for days on end now, and deleting all my databases ( yes they are backedup), my host says:
Did you take an extended break from Mysql development?

Well I have no idea what he means except that something must have been a recent update with mysql that I dont' know about.

Does anyone have any idea what problem I am having and how do I work with this?

From the MySQL Manual:
Error: 1148 SQLSTATE: 42000 (ER_NOT_ALLOWED_COMMAND) Message: The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version

There are some specific issues regarding using the LOCAL keyword in LOAD DATA INFILE command in MySQL 4.0.x. The LOCAL keyword allows loading data from the client, otherwise the data must be located on the server.

In MySQL 4.0.x LOCAL will only work if MySQL server was started with --local-infile=1.

In the case that LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE is disabled in the server or the client, you will get the error message (1148): "The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version".

I did read that. I dont' quite follow that. It would something
on my host's side to do, correct?
I use his controlpanel and while in there I get the access to
phpmyadmin. That is how I get to mysql.

I have no idea how to include this (your quoted info below) into
the interface of phpmyadmin, where as before you could just click
the button "insert text from file" button and bingo, done.

Can you help me out with this?

would I do a manual insert into table, but put this first:

--local-infile=1 (then here my load data info???)

I am not even sure if this is where your problem lies... It doesn't sound like your host is very helpful, but that's who you need to try to work with. That setting is in the php.ini file, and your host has to be the one to make that change...

Thanks, I forwarded that info onto him, they say they changed
or did nothing. I lost all mysql abilities for over a week now.
If he doesn't do something soon...looks like I will be looking for
a new hosting service.

Here is the answer I received back from my hosting service:
That is the PHP congiguration file. You should be able to upload your own php.ini file to make your site work. (in your public_html) directory.

I never had to do that when I signed on with them, why now?
Can someone help me with this? Is this like making a htaccess page?
