sort dates

i have about 100 files whose names are the dates they were created (they're press releases) in one of three different formats. I've written script that converts any of the filenames to a posix compliant timestamp of format F d Y, pushes them in to an array and prints it for selection in a drop down menu.

all of this works fine 🙂

my last hurdle is in sorting them. As I've said, they are posix compliant dates, once they get to the array. Surely there's a function for chronologically sorting an array of dates? I've checked the function list, but I can't seem to find anything promising.

You could use [man]strtotime[/man] to get a timestamp equvolent of the date. Then when you're putting them into the array use the timestamp as the key. Then sort your array based on the key. Blam a date sorted array.

to get the date values to be keys i can use array_flip?

[man]sort()[/man] will sort the values, or [man]ksort()[/man] will sort the keys. It all depends on which one you have as the timestamps.

And, yes, if you have timestamps as values, and you want them to be the keys instead, you can use [man]array_flip()[/man] to swap the keys and values.
