[Resolved] PHP my admin

Hi, I am new to MySQL. I don't have it set up on my local computer, it comes from my host. However, in my Hosts Control Panel, there is a link to access the "MySQL Manager", but when I
click on it, I get the following error:

-----phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL
server, and the server rejected the connection.
You should check the host, username and password
in config.inc.php and make sure that they
correspond to the information given by the
administrator of the MySQL server.

Is this my fault or is it the Server's? Is there something that I need to do to access it, or do I need to contact the Administrator of the server? I don't even know what config.inc.php is or where
it's located. Help Please. Thanks.

It is down to your host configuration. Get their technical support to set you up properly and explain themselves at the same time. The reason it is up to them is that you will not have the neccessary priviledges to edit root config files (unless they are total idiots that is).

ok so I contacted the Admin for the server, and he gave me the specific URL I need to gain access. Only thing is, it's the same page as before giving me the same error. Here is his quote... but I don't know what I need to do:

"For the database go to

    [URL here]

and log in as [user]

Both passwords are the same (I sent those to you previously when the
dbs were set up). You can have windows on these open simultaneously.
You do not have to go through the control panel, although you can get
to the above URLs that way."

So if I click on that link he sent above and I go the same place and get the same error as before, how do I ever get to the point that I can even put my login info to access the DB?

Okay...I dont' know who your host is, but I would venture to say that either they are now the biz, or you just got a careless admin on the phone/email.

You need to tell them that the PHPMyAdmin configureation file was not properly set up, and you are getting an error. If he trys to feed you some garbage about it working fine, send him to the page, and show him the error.

There are several configurations for PHPmyadmin, one where you can put in a username and password to gain access to the databases, and one where you specify the username/password in the cifguration file (atleast I think it works that way :S), and it appears that they have it set up the second way...if they give you to much greif about it, ask they refund any money you have spent, and go with a better host...

Hey thanks guys! Everything is resolved. I love this forum, it really helps a lot, especially since I'm a newbie and learning everything out of an 800 page book. Sometimes you need actual people assistance. Thanks again.
