Organizing dates my month

Im creating a report system for my application. I save the date and time a user signups by storing the time() result into a mysq feild. I want to create a page that shows how many users signed up for each month. How would I select this data from the database?

Use the DATE_FORMAT function in your query to return the month number, use GROUP BY and COUNT to count them.

SELECT date_format(date_in, %c) as month_in, count(date_format(date_in, %c)) as month_count, ....
GROUP BY month_in

Thanks. Would it be possible to do something like this but with weeks/days instead?

Ive been messing around with it, all it returns is NULL.

Read the manual first. If you don't find your mistake then post the actual code you wrote here, along with any error messages.

Not using code, no error messages. Using phpmyadmin to execute your query. Its returning NULL for all rows in the table. I know the problem and can not find a mysql function to fix it. date_format takes in a real date, while im storing the number of seconds (taken from time(), as said in my original post).
