Installing PHP applications

I need to educate myself on the different software options available
for installing php applications.

Where should I go to research what's out there? Where do people
usually go before deciding on a specific implementation or educating
clients about their possible options?

Are there any sites that contain reviews for various types of
applications?

For example, I'm trying to research project management applications
for a client.

I came across this site (for content management systems - which
I don't need). Something like this would be ideal to investigate

Firstly a good walk over to google usually starts me off and then to refine the search hotscripts.com and sourceforge.net usually my results will come from google to these two sites.
