how to upload PHP files to server

can someone help?

I had a developer put together for me some php/mySql stuff for a website i designed. It all looks good. He sent me all the files of his work in a zip file and I am now supposed to upload it to my server. I cant reach him until monday and Its the weekend and I want to get it done right away.

My question is how do i do it? do I upload each induvidual file separately? do i need to upload specific files to a specific directory or what?

please let me know how this is done so I can put the scripts in and conduct testing.

Without seeing what he has actually sent you, it is difficult to give you a specific answer. It is the case that all files will need to be in the correct locations. Only he can really tell you this. Give him a rocket for not including explicit installation instructions: must be an amateur.

If you have someone who can read his code then they may understand what is required, but don't count on it. Sorry.

i uploaded the whole folder as a unit to my business website which is NOT where it will be housed ...

i think the coding is very good from what i DO know about php and mysql....i think hes probably a good coder but not so good a person. too bad.

if you have dreamweaver you should be able to examine all the documents and files. my database is set up on my server in accordance with the requirements of the project....

Well, if you read "instruction.txt", you'll see what he wrote about this.

Not that his English is that great ... perhaps it's a 2nd language?

Anyway, I assume you already have some other pages on the actual site? Before uploading, make sure none of them have the same names as the files you put on the test site (folder names, as well)...

The tricky thing, for you, is probably setting up the db info. If it was me, I'd use the MySQL monitor. The source file is"tmorgan.sql..sql" . That info will have to be added to the db prior to getting some of the pages to work.

Also, he should have hard-coded in the database username/password, as I don't see it in a config-type file. But it could still be hiding in there. It doesn't work on your "test" site, of course.

youre correct.. english is not his first language but i couldnt find anyone stateside to do the project...all i got was the run around from developers i contacted. maybe i shouldve posted here 🙁 i certainly wanted someone not only in US but preferrably in southeast florida where i live...but...in the immortoral words of sir mick...you cant alwasy get what you want.... 😉

i read his instructions but wasnt sure if i was supposed to upload to www or to specific folder(s) on the server...

and i wasnt sure if i would have to upload each file separately with my FTP client for it to work properly or if i could just upload the whole folder and all its contents....
