Question about PHP Books

I have a very simple question about PHP/MySQL books that has absolutely nothin to do with coding. Ok, here it goes:

I have been looking for a book to buy that includes both PHP and MySQL. Found a whole lot at Barnes n Nobles and Borders, but I have noticed that there is also a CD-ROM included in the back of the book. I have a theory, but need someone to confirm it. :p

I have been thinking that the CD-ROM might allow you to have control of a MySQL database, as to test your knowledge. I wanted to make sure that there is a way to use your MySQL skills learned in the book before I buy it, because I dont have the money to buy a domain name with one included 😉.

ou don't need a CD to come with the book. PHP, MySQL and Apache are all free, open-source software. There is even a bundle available: http://www.easyphp.org/

but dont you need to pay to acually be able to write querys to a MySQL server to create forums and such??

like heres my situataion:

I dont have a domain that comes with a MySQL database, and my question is, is there a way that I can learn MySQL and PHP without having a domain that is pre-supplied?

can i install and/or create my own???

If you install PHP, MySQL and Apache on your on local machine (your home computer) than you can do all of your learning locally. However, it will not be accessable from the internet - just on your own home computer. Take a look at easyPHP and you will see what I mean.
