I am trying to fix somebody's code which inserts forwardslash when the description is retrieved from the database.

For example, I entered <a href="http://www.abc.com?id=1>Click here</a>. The code went in to database exactly as I typed, but when I pulled that from the database, my link becomes "http://www.abc.com/?id=1".

Can anyone please tell me what went wrong? I could not find the solution. It is not the backward slases like O\'Reilly. Appreciate your help.

There is nothing in the code. It's just an echo statement. Here it is:

<?echo $product["description"];?>

I am wondering if there will be some code that is in the config file to change/add slashes to special characters.

I guess I'm not getting where the problem is happening. What happens if you connect with a command line type front end and select the data, is it correct then?

Also, have you tried putting something like <plaintext> at the beginning of your script to make sure the really are getting chopped up?

there is nothing wrong with this behaviour.

http://www.abc.com?id=1 isn't a valid url where http://www.abc.com/?id=1 is a valid url.

Check the generated html source in your browser. I guess it contains http://www.abc.com?id=1.

I tested this with IE6 and used http://myserver?id=1 inside the HTML code.

IE automatically corrects the url http://myserver?id=1 and uses http://www.abc.com/?id=1 instead.

Are you sure?
RFC 2396 states that:

This "generic URI" syntax consists of a sequence of four main components:
  <scheme>://<authority><path>?<query>
each of which, except <scheme>, may be absent from a particular URI.

and

The authority component is preceded by a double slash "//" and is
terminated by the next slash "/", question-mark "?", or by the end of
the URI.
