Hi guys,

I'm building a prototype application using php and mysql and am trying to include a list of users that exist in a Novell netware enviroment. I have heard this can be done through LDAP. but this is all i know, can anyone else guide/ facilitate me with this.

hi guys,

Just looking for confirmation here really. I am running php 4.3.4

and tryting to get my php application to work with ldap. i think i need to configure my install for ldap support. In my test.php i see

Virtual Directory Support enabled

i assume this means i do not need to configure phph for ldap.

also in my php.ini file i found this line

;extension=php_ldap.dll

shall i uncomment it ?

yes .. the ldap module must be loaded ..
uncomment . save and restart apache

i uncommented the line in php.ini, but it says it could not find the ldap file .

I looked in the php/dll folder in case it was there but its not in there either.

there are files but nothing called ldap

Hi,

pph_ldap.dll is in the directory extensions. Besides uncommenting that line in php.ini you need to copy libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll to the system32 directory.

Hi,

the first step is to create a little script that just contains

<?PHP
phpinfo();
?>

Check if the output contains a section about ldap. If yes, then try to connect to your ldap server.

hi Thomas,

your right i scrolled down my test.php page and i saw a section ldap, bit silly of me really wasnt looking properly.

Now i think i need to download a ldap server to connect to. Im trying to help my system admin out. he has given me an ip address for the server, but i think he needs to give me more information like about the structure of the directory according to my reading. so am thinking i might as well download my onw server and practice connecting and searching etc and then transfer what i know

what do u think

Hi,

it's a good idea to have your own ldap server for testing purposes at the beginning (at least if you need to write data to the ldap server).

This way you can do whatever you like without possibly messing up vital data. I'd suggest to get the same ldap server as the one currently installed on the server.

Even if you need read access only it would be better to use a test system at the beginning because ldap queries can stress the ldap server a lot (especially, if the indexes aren't set up properly or with heavily wildcarded queries).

I have been looking for free win32 ldap server to test but cant find anything that works

I tried downloading AE ldap server from download.com but get an error message

"cant run 16 bit windows program

Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit one or more windows applications and then try again.

The search for a free even evaluation ldap server is proving hard. I spoke ot my sys admin and he said not to download e directory becuause it was a beast and that i should keep looking for a free win32 ldap server.

anyone else know of any good ones

Hi,

the most commonly used open LDAP server is OpenLDAP.
You can either install cygwin including the OpenLDAP package or try out this port to Windows.

I didn't ever use the port so I don't know if it is stable. The cygwin version should be fairly stable.

ok so to interact with it im gonna downlaod phpldapadmin a web based gui tool.

by the way the version of openldap i have downloaded is very experimental and has no documentation for win platform. so its gonna prove extra tricky for me
