Can't access table

I am nor very adept at php or msql, howver, I have a database with about 15 tables. One table collects survey info from a form on a web page. This form has worked succesfully for more than a year. and last week had 5996 records in it. Now, the form does not update the table and when I try to access the table to review records i get a "Error during query execution." message.

The rest of the database is working fine. Is there an upper limit on the records a table can hold?

I maintain this site as a volunteer for a charity and am not a programmer. So any advice you can provide will be helpful.

If you are getting an error when trying to access the table then it sounds like it is corrupted. Do you have a backup?

No limit on number of records per table that I know of, except the physical limits imposed by available disk space. Your host may have imposed a storage limit which could prevent you adding records, but would not stop you accessing the existing ones.

a little more info. when I try to access the table, i get this message:

Sorry your Query failed: select * from Surveyinfo
error:Can't open file: 'Surveyinfo.MYD'. (errno: 145)

In which case: you can not open the file 'Surveyinfo.MYD'. This may be because you do not have the right privileges, or because the file itself is corrupt, or locked for edit, etc. You will need to examine the file more closely to isolate the reason.

I do not recognise the MYD file extension. What db are you using?

I really don't know where the extension came from. I never gave it an extension when I created the table. Because the rest of the database works fine, including adding records to different tables, I am assuming that you are correct and the table info is corrupted.

I provide the charity with a program to back up the database every day. I am not sure they have been using it, however.

Is there an easy method for repairing a database table?

Depends on the DBMS you are using. Search it's manual for repair table functions. MySQL: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Repair.html. No guarantees it will work, really does depend on what has gone wrong.
