Help with MySQL DB queries

I have been toying with the queries on a MySQL database for the past few days, and have managed to be able to echo such components suuch as field length, type, name, etc. Though the whole time I have been trying to find a function that queries the value/content of a field, yet cannot seem to find such a function. Can anyone help?

Hi,

I'm not completely sure what you want to do but try something like this:

// .connect to server and select database then
$sql = "SELECT field FROM table";
$res = mysql_query($sql) or die("SQL error: ".mysql_error());

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($res)) {
  echo $row['field']."<br>\n";
}

Check the PHP manual for mysql_fetch_row, mysql_fetch_array or mysql_fetch_assoc.

hmmm...Im trying to substitute in my own variables that are defined in my script...but i keep getting errors...something wrong with my Syntax....i'll keep looking at it..but thanks for the sript..makes sense, and should work..i just gotta work it out.

It doesnt display an error...but it doesnt echo anything either....

here is the script and variables that I have been using:

$query = mysql_query('SELECT add_to FROM add_db WHERE 1');
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($query, MYSQL_BOTH) {
    echo $row[0];
}

and as I said....there's no error, but it doesnt say anything...
mabye Im entering the MySQL field value into the wrong box in phpmyadmin....hmmm...tell me...what field in phpmyadmin is used to define the value of a field. Mabye that'll help.

Hi,

change it to

$query = mysql_query('SELECT add_to FROM add_db WHERE 1') or die("SQL error: ".mysql_error()); 
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($query, MYSQL_BOTH) { 
    echo $row[0]; 
}

Check the where clause in your query .... or try it without any where clause at all. Do you have any data in the table already ?

I didn't understand exactly your question about phpMyAdmin.

I have 1 field in the table

my question about php admin is....how do you give a field a value?

If you want to insert a completely new row just click on the table in the left menu and then on the insert link on top of the page that is loaded.

If you want to modify an existing row click on one of the links to view the table contents. On each row displayed is a symbol to edit a row.
