Selecting distinct "month/year" from db

Hi,

I have a table with a date column. I'd like to build a menu that lists each month/year in the db.

Ex, let's that in the table there are dates 7 June 2003, 10 June 2003, 15 Nov 2003, 20 Nov 2003, 3 Jan 2004, 10 Jan 2004, 3 June 2004, etc

The menu would list:

June 2003
Nov 2003
Jan 2004
June 2004

I can't figure out how to do this in SQL, so I am guessing I will need to select distinct dates and build the menu in php.

First of all dates should always be stored as numbers, preferably with the timestamp datatype. That makes queries like this rather elementary.

Yes, of course they are stored as timestamps and the column in the db is a date column.

Since you already troubled that's a stupid question. Anyway, I cannot give you the query unless you give me the table layout.

you're first post insinuated that you were storing the dates in this format

1 july 2003
4 january 2002
etc.

So I replied saying if you used timestamps it you be an elementary query.

Then you replied, very sarcastically, that since it is so elementary could I help you with the query.

To which I replied, equally sarcastically, that I can't help without having the layout of the table.

To which you told me I have an attitude.
