Tracking View of an Image??

Hey guys...sory for all the posts today but im stuck again...heres my problem.

on a userpage, they have 1 image displayed, and then links to other images.

Im assuming to track the views of the first image, I would just somehow track theviews of the page?? But still...I dont know how to do this.

My table in my db for photos contains the following fields

id
username
path
file_order
voting
hits

bascially, everytime an image is viewed I want the hit field to increase...how is this done?? Ive searched but havent found too many things.

1. pull the record from the db (SELECT)
2. add 1 to the "hits" integer
3. write it back to the db (UPDATE)
