Displaying certain lines from a text file...

Hello everyone and thank you for reading this post.

Here is my problem;
I have a text file that contains 30 lines. In the future, the text file will contain more than 100 lines, but i need to have a cycle, where there is a page that displays 10 lines from the text file. In the cycle, if there were 100 lines in the text file then there would be a 10 day cycle, and each day would have a different set of 10 lines. I am usually pretty good at deciding how I am going to set up and code scripts, but this one is completely out of my league.

Any one who can help is also welcome to join me on this project, I am not going to post much information concerning the project except that money is involved.

The simplest (though not always the most efficient) option would be to look into [man]file/man.

You'll need an algorithm to deal with a changing number of lines though, but that requires more information.

Being known for using the 'stick of dynamite' approach...

add a date 'field' to the beginning of each line.

give the same date to each line that is to be shown on that date

when you read the file check to see if the first date is within the current 10 day period.

if so display the first 10 lines; if not move the first 10 lines to the end of the file and display the new first 10 lines.

I know a very rough sledge hammer approach

I thank you very much for your replies, but what I think I am going to do is make 10 text files, each containing 10 lines.
I will use the date() function to see what the day of the year is, devide that by ten or something along those lines. Once again I thank you for your replies.
You are still welcome to follow up on this topic, as I know my way is not the most efficient.
