How to pass information to web page

Hi Everyone!

Here is my question. I currently have a software program that I have developed and now I would like to be able to have my users check for updates through this software program by having this software program call my website and pass along the version number of the software program.

For Example: If a customer of mine is running Version 1.0 of my software, and at the present time I have Version 2.0 completed, I would like for my web page to gather this version number and then based on the version number either tell the user that their software is up-to-date or that there is more recent version available. My web page could be something like -- www.CheckForUpdates and then I would like to capture the version number passed to it, but I don't know how this is done. I've know of other programs that do this, but I'm not sure how they do it.

I sure hope this isn't a dumb question. I've tried searching for this but nothing seems to be helping for what I'm looking for.

Hi,

you might want to take a look at the manual reservered variables.

Use e.g. $_GET['version'] and http://www.mydomain.com/checkversion.php?version=2.0

Use $_POST['version'] if you post the data by e.g. a html form.
