Hey there PHP dev folks! I am a newb at web design. I'm just getting barely competant at such things as html and css. However, I know that PHP is a much more powerful language to design in. I have absolutely no experience with it. That's not what I want to talk about.
For those of you who do have experience and are looking for a project to work on and possibly capitalize on, I have a really good idea.
This may be familiar to you, but I'll explain in as much detail as possible for those who aren't. For several days now I have been browsing the web trying to find a good PHP-based guild management tool for a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game for the uninformed - like EverQuest or World of Warcraft) guild.
There's alot of clan tools out there, but they're mostly tools to create a clan-type website for Counter-Strike clans and such. They either list no more than playername and some trivial player information, or they offer crap extra features I don't need like forums and news tools and such. Most have not caught up to the complicated needs of a serious guild for a complex mmorpg.
Basically what I am looking for is a PHP based web tool that acts much like PHPBB2 and databases members (maybe have accounts created by the webmaster so not just anyone can register as a guild member), and allows them to go back and edit their information. Instead of a forum, the main page is just a chart/list tool that lists the members and their information. What would really be handy is if the tool could database information like player name, race, class, level, skills, and perhaps even have fields the webmaster alone could edit so guild administrators can enter and track points for members (for attendance to events) and member ranks/titles. If you really want to get fancy, you could add fields that don't show up in the initial listing that give further player information like their crafting skills, alternate characters, links to their homepage, maybe a little character screenshot (or whatnot, you get the idea). Add an option to change templates on the program much like PHPBB2 allows you to, an easy installation package and I'd pay money for it.
You'd think something like this would already be out since graphic mmorpgs started getting really popular about 6 years ago, but it sounds pretty hard to make to me, and I haven't found a tool that's close to what I'm looking for yet. Something relatively close is Guild Magic (www.guildmagic.com - not sure if it's even still around), but it's completely centralized and doesn't allow guild admin to track attendance points and such (plus it's almost exclusively created with EverQuest in mind).
If you know of a program that you think is what I'm looking for, please feel free to post a link. Otherwise, I thought I'd throw this idea out in an area where the most appropriate people to see it created gather.
