sockets and remote login

Hi,

I'm registered at a site I use daily and wondered if I could automate some stuff I do all the time....

Firstly I have to login to the site using standard username and password -

Question is.....is it possible to write a script to do this (log in to the site for me) and then grab the web pages I use and save them onto my server?

If it is possible, can anyone point me to some sample code to do this?

Check out [man]curl[/man]. You'd be able to use it to log in and retrieve the pages you need (its able to keep track of cookies/sessions and such so when you have it log in, it'll pass the info back to the target's web server just as if it was a browser). You'll also find several different "starter" scripts to get you going, although logging in is a little more complex but just read up on how to execute a POST and you should be good to go...

If you're looking for code handouts, check out php.net's feedback. There's TONS of great snippets.

I'd also recommend hitting google up for some curl tutorials.

With Curl, you'll have to develop the code to meet the needs of the site you're transmitting data with.

Nah... no-one has ever touched cURL or PHP's interface with it; it's only there to make the language look good. All that code and all those user notes you think you see on all those manual pages are really just your dinner repeating on you (the chicken was bad).
