basic form help

Hello,
I am having some problems with a form I made in php. Whenever there is an apostrophe (a " ' " mark), it shows up as a " / ".

So if I wrote in the comments box,
"Hello, I'm Terry"

It would show up,
"Hello, I/m Terry"

Anyone know why this is? And any way of fixing this little problem?

this may be what is happening

PHP provides a configuration option "magic_quotes_gpc", which automatically adds slashes to any submitted HTML form data or cookies (gpc = GET/POST/COOKIE), before it gets passed onto your script

"Hello I\'m Terry"

use the escape command

Putting in the backlash I assume would work, but I'm using this for a form for others to fill out. So I can't really expect them to do that.

The magic_quotes_gpc sounds like the answer to my problem. Never knew about it. I guess I'll try harassing my hosting company to turn it off like it says.
