All:
I'm just writing this here for informational purposes, since we were unable to find anything out there on it:
We are in the process of converting our web sites from Cold Fusion to PHP. It has been an ongoing process. Almost since the beginning, we would see problems across the system (We use Solaris with Oracle). Our main problem was a high number of timeouts on the web servers, but with little activity on the database. After doing a number of differnt things to no avail, we discovered that PHP and Cold Fusion conflicted when talking to the Oracle listener. Basically, PHP got all of the listener's attention, while CF got none. What we did to correct it was to start up a second listener and split the languages between the two. The change had immediate and dramatic effect, and we went back to business as usual. Hope that helps someone.
