html tag problems

I have written a few pages in php. the HTML that is echoed sometimes has problems. Some times it will just drop characters from the HTML. it is nothing consistent and i can not find a pattern to when it does it. the problem is that i have a line that is:

echo"<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Company Name</TITLE></HEAD>...

I know this is correct. Sometimes when is gets to the browser it comes out as:

<HTML>< EAD><TITLE>Company Name</TITLE></HEAD>...

The missing "H" in the <HEAD> tag in turn displays < EAD> in my document. Like i said it doesn't happen everytime the page is loaded and i can't find a pattern to when it happens. I am running php4 on a unix server with apache but i am not sure as to what version. Any insight would be greatly appreciated or if you could inform me as to whether this is a known bug that would be great.

Where are you located, what operating systems are involved, etc. .... I'm wondering about character set issues....

i am using windows 2000 and XP on the local machines

The server in unix. it is a virtual server that i have space rented on so i don't know the exact version of the OS but i do know it is Unix.

This does seem weird. Are you setting a content type/character encoding in the document, or via header()?

If your doc is publicly accessible and you don't mind, you could either post or PM me a URI and I'd take a look at it with a few different browsers/editors --- not that I'm holding out lots of hope on this one ... 🙁

the page that has the problem is when you click on one of the pictures it loads a popup window and that window is the problem. that page is in the same folder and is called test2.php but it requires variables from test.php to load. this has not been tested in anything but Internet Explorer 6 and like i said it doesn't happen all the time. it is kinda a freak occurance. Thanks for looking at it for me.
