I am a webdesigner but my skills in php go as far as using server side includes. A friend of mine wants me to make a website with a somewhat large backend application.
My webdesign skills go as far as this: www.designity.nl
This application will be be used to display appartment advertisements and allow users to submit their advertisements.
The database with advertisements should be searchable and browsable by categorie (region).
My question is, are there any open source applications that are somewhat like this. If not, where would I start learning php in order to start orientating myself on this and perhaps build it myself.
If it turns out that it is just to big for me (likely) i will outsource this project, can anyone tell me what would be the approximate costs for just the barebone backend app?
