Stupid Search

okay. i need to make a very vauge seach but just using like isnt working. anyone know how to make a really vague seach?
i.e i type in ap i get apartment, appointment blah blah blah so and so on.

My question would be... Why doesn't LIKE work for you? That's the best way to make a vague search...

$qry = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM table where fieldname LIKE '%".$_POST['searchterm']."%'");

You just gotta remember to put in your wildcards (%)...

If you searched for "ap", then this would give you results like:

apartment, apple, mishap, flapper, etc... In other words, no matter where in the word "ap" appears, it will find it. That's as vague as you can get.

you could as well use REGEXP to do your search.
it gives you more control over the search as its allows u to use regular expression.

$sql="SELECT * FROM table where fieldname REGEXP '.*" . $keyword . ".*'";
$query=mysql_query($sql);
