Expire Software In PHP

We are using a custom php check in and out board. I want to know how to add some code to the from of the script to tell it to look at todays date, and if it say = 02/23/05 then the script will default to a message that says its expired.

Can somebody please tell me how to do this kind of check and action?

Well, this would be useless, as they could just edit the file.

Well, just find a suitable timestamp for the expiration date (you can use [man]mktime/man for that), and compare it to [man]time/man. If the result from time() is higher than the timestamp, then it's expired.
