List of MySQL function

I am new to mySQL queries and what to know how to query that will select all the fields that begin with "p" or any specific letter. So say I have 5 entrees in my data base.

plum
pear
peach
apple
grape

and I want to pull only the entrees that begin with "p". How would I write that query?

SELECT * FROM <table name> WHERE <field name> LIKE "p%"

try using LIKE

$sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE fieldname LIKE 'p%'");

something like that. been awhile for me.

ex:

LIKE - explantion of function
ORDER BY - explantion of function
