Which would be better for search ranking?

I know this isn't exactly a question about php, but I was wondering if anyone knows which would be better for search engine ranking (My company owns several hundred domain names related to the same industry):

1) A small website for each domain name, with links to our main website

2) One massive website that has information on all the different topics, and have the other domains forward to the main site.

I can't seem to get any of my smaller sites to get indexed on Google or Yahoo, yet my main site is number one under several keywords.

Any ideas?
