Verifying a date of birth and an age?

Hi all,

How would I go about verifying a date is correct? e.g. if a user enters 31st Feb. it would be incorrect, how do I check that (if the date format is in $day (31) and $month (2 or 02)?

Also if someone enters the year they were born was say 1989 then to find their age I would have found the current year then took 1989 from it to leave 15....but then if it is August 2004 and they aren't 15 until November say, how would you check their age with $day (19) $month (11) £year (1989) for example?

php has a great function called checkdate()

Oh ya! You also wanted a way to calculate the age. Here's a little function for you then:

$year_entered = "1972";

echo age($year_entered);



function age($year)
{
	return date("Y") - $year;
}
?>

That function doesn't work because it doesn't account for it the person's birthday already occured, what if they were born on jan 1st?

There are functions in other threads for calculating someone's age from a birthday just search the forums.
