What Technology Does This WebSite Use? Help me get this Job.

If you can give me a consice answer, I can get this job in Cyprus (my country).

I program in PHP / MySQL. I can do miracles in these technolgies.

Those people told me that their website is based on the .NET technologies. I don't think so.

They said that they are about to employ somebody who know .NET technologies but I want to tell them that their existing website was not based on .NET technologies and that I can use my knowledge in PHP and MySQL to make it really impressive.

Is it based on CGI???
Can I tell if it is based on Windows or Unix server?????

what does ".taf" mean???? Is it CGI????

So, beyond being the php and mysql god, you are horrible with research. A google search on "web extensions .taf" would have landed you here:

which explains that taf are Witango extensions. Then a little netcraft search would tell you what they're running.

If they are a Microsoft shop, I'd recommend letting it go. If they're sure .NET is the way to go, then you'll need to learn .NET.

They are not a Microsoft Job. And they are not sure if .NET is the way to go. What I really want to know is, if their existing website is or is not based on .NET . Because they said they want to continue using this staff. I doubt if they ever used this staff. Their old web developer left the company and they don't even know how their website is run!!!!

The salary is not so good so don't feel jelous!!! 🙁

But I want to pay my mortgage!!!! 😕

The website they have was created in a language called WiTango, just like they've said above. If you'd like to learn it, all you had to do was do a Google search to find their homepage and get a link to their free programmers guide.

They are definitely using a microsoft technology.

dont let the .taf file extensions fool you. you can use any file extension if you configure your server to do so. I've used .ass as my php file extension before.

"Powered by ASP.NET" but I haven't seen .asp anywhere.

If they pay me enough to learn a new language then OK....

I remember before I went to college I was a clipper programmer. Now I'm a computer programmer. All languages are basically the same learn a little programming theory and you can learn a new programming language in a couple weeks.

I agree Drawmack - learn the algorithms and the rest is just vocabulary.

AlexP: They're running on a Microsoft IIS v5 box. Sure, you can toss PHP and MySQL on there. But if they have MS SQL around, you'll have to ditch MySQL (and that actually would be a really good thing to do with access to MS SQL). You definitely could install PHP, but since its an IIS box, it might be better to go .NET. Tough call. Depends on what the political climate is at this company.

Also depends on what the company is looking to get out of their web site. PHP could do it. But I'd suspect .NET could do just as well.

Just as a reference, attitude like this can be picked up rather easily in an interview. Either a company will love you or hate you for it. Just keep that in mind and becareful.

I have to admit though, if that were what they were using...it is pretty crappy. Just read through the documentation myself. One word... Coldfusion. Nuff said.

Why are you applying for the job in the first place if they already told you it was a Microsoft shop? Aren't you just fighting with something that you can't change? Their the employer and call the shots, not you.

Remember, they tell you what to do. Not the other way around.
