How to set charset type in PHP?

Hi, people,

I´m requesting some information from a database in a MSSQLServer and the result of the query is in a type that do not correspond to my country (Brasil). I need typing the results in a iso-8859-1 charset to view apropriately the strings.

Sorry for my poor english ...

I would suggest a change to the charset inside the db server. Change to UTF-8 / 16(unicode), as it will handle almost any language, or the western european character set.

I still need to recognize the output characteres provided by the query. in PHP script ...

Somebody said to verify mbstring function, but it seems to attempt to mail propouses ...

Others said to verify the mod_mime, a module from Apache Server, the Internet Server that is in use.

Please, anyone could help me?
