Database use

I have an account with oneandone hosting a number of web sites. I have one site that has a forum ( using phpBB ) My web server has allocated one database to me, which I have named db1. I now need to set up a similar forum on another site, can I use the same database to service my other site without the two forums clashing ??

I'd think that this is more suitable if you ask it on the www.phpbb.com forums rather than here. This has nothing to do with PHP development.

Thanks for the information (unhelpful).....phpBB only offers free licensing software for community forums.

I thought this area was "Help for those just getting started".......Ah.....think thats me.

I am trying to develop a php database I have. The question I have relates to trying to understand the procedure of inserting two functions within one database, which would require specific php coding (if it can be done).

I think I will hang around in here as I think I have come to the right place and have found the majority of people in here very knowledgable and helpful. A few of your threads do stress to people that they are in the wrong forum and their question has nothing to do with php development. I think there is a failure to understand that they are newbies and need help.

Maybe you should move on from Einstein now and move forward with Betrand Russell. I have left you a link below, maybe you should be reading up on him not Einstein.

Whether you can use a database remotely depends on how the user account and the database server itself have been set up. Your hosting provider may not allow remote access to the database server.

If you can clear that hurdle, many applications such as a forum allow you to specify not only the database name, but also the table names (or perhaps a prefix for the table names) in order to avoid a clash between two installations using the same data store. Look in the config file.

And your failure is to not recognize that what you are asking has nothing to do with writing php code.

Couldn't your problem be solved by paying an additional $8/month to upgrade your web hosting service for another database? Or by not going to the phpBB community forum as I suggested to ask the question which is more suitable place? Perhaps they could offer you advice on how to configure it. Now tell me what does this have to do with PHP coding?

By the way, I found Einstein's pictorial avatar last night and used it because I thought it was funny. For whatever reason of your request to read about Betrand Russell, it was a strange one having nothing to do with solving your problem.
