time since user last logged in

Hello:

I have a question regarding date and time. What I am trying do is display how long it has been since a user has logged in. For example I have $var = 20040830005854". How would I make it so it would say something like 1 Day, 3 hours, 36 since youhave last logged in. Anyone have any solution for this?

Convert that thing into a Unix-style timestamp (depending on where you get it from (MySQL? It looks like the sort of thing MySQL would generate) you could probably convert it at the source. Otherwise, you'll have to use [man]substr[/man] or [man]sscanf[/man] to get the various bits ofthe date out and put them together again with [man]mktime[/man]) and then subtract it from the current timestamp (as retuned by time()). After that it's just a bit of maths (hint: there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour).
