Need help executing a zip command

I dont know how to do this...so I ask for your help!

I need to create a php script that will run the following zip command:

zip -jt mmddyyyy scripts/fullphoto uploads/*.jpg

Now, the mmddyyyy needs to be todays date on the server. The goal is to zip only files that have been added today....or has todays datestamp. How can this be achieved.

Zip man shows the following:

-t Do not operate on files modified prior to the specified
date, where mm is the month (0-12), dd is the day of the
month (1-31), and yyyy is the year. The ISO 8601 date
format yyyy-mm-dd is also accepted. For example:

                 zip -rt 12071991 infamy foo

                 zip -rt 1991-12-07 infamy foo

give that a try, however execution stuff varies from system to system based on the php install and user permissions associated with the owner of the script.

hmmm...it doesnt seem to work....no error messages....and no zip file. How can I troubleshoot? No log file or anything I can look at.

What about setting this up as a shell? I guess I dont NEED php. If I can get the server timestamp from the shell than I could execute a cron to run the script.

Another thing...for troubleshooting:

I echo'd $execstr

and get

zip -jt 08312004 scripts/incrementalphoto uploads/*.jpg

But when I do an ls -l in my uploads dir my timestamps show up as:
Aug 31 10:13

Could this be the problem?

Hi,

in this case you need to use 08302004 so that the files with a timestamp of 08312004 will be include.

But the main problem might be that you don't specify the target zip file like

zip -jt 08302004 path/to/the/file.zip scripts/incrementalphoto uploads/*.jpg

Ok, here is what I have now for the script

$execstr = "zip -jt " . date("M j") . " scripts/incrementalphoto uploads/*.jpg";

$res = `$execstr`;
?>

Do the paths matter? The paths reflect where the script is actually run from. I still cant seem to get the too work. My files show a time as well, but I want to zip files dated today. I really dont care about the 'time' they arrived....just the date. Any ideas?

Hi,

there is still the target zip file missing. Try something like this as execstr:

$execstr = "zip -jt " . date("Y-m-d") . " zipfile.zip scripts/incrementalphoto uploads/*.jpg";

Specify the full paths to the target zip file and to the the source files if that doesn't work either.

I just noticed that there is a white space in the source path. You need to escape it like

$execstr = "zip -jt " . date("Y-m-d") . " zipfile.zip scripts/incrementalphoto\\ uploads/*.jpg";
