Webring-style random link

I'm trying to make a webring but I've run into problems making the hub, mostly because of the "Random" "Prev" and "Next" links. How do I use those links without using php on the outside pages the ring hubs reside on?

You could have all of those links go back to your server (where the ring members are registered), and have fields in the querystring to say (a) which site this page is on (the site ID) and (b) what sort of movement is being asked for. Then use header() to redirect the client to the appropriate site. As a bonus, you get a record of movements within the ring. No site need know anything about any other - only their own membership number and yours.

Yes, I thought about the Hub --> Server --> Site Method already. I also thought about runing the script remotly and getting the results through JavaScript with the src command. Still I'm wondering how other webrings (an example is the webring.com ring hubs) do it because the link which is usually something like www.ringhost.com/script.ext?a=id,
but I see no inbetween method it just goes from Hub --> Site in this case. Maybe it's just doing Hub --> Server really fast and I can't see it ^_

they could be using [man]curl[/man] to read in the contents of the other site and display them without changing the url, but if you did that you'd have to parse the html and convert all relative links into absolute ones. They probably wrote some specialized c code that runs uber fast and you can't see it.
