Download txt file with php

I have to download a txt-file from another server and store into mine. Is there a function that can be used easy for this?

$uri = 'http:// adress to the file';
$contents = file_get_contents($uri);
$filename = basename($uri);
$fp = fopen($filename, 'w');
fwrite($fp, $contents);
fclose($fp);
