Guess what - this happened to me too. It's MS's fault - I'd blame Bill. But there's a way round it: use double quotes on any file name you insert in the save dialogue for Notepad, i.e. "php_info.php" and then the automatic .txt ending won't be added. Step 2: change your WinEx settings so that no file endings are hidden. Step 3 - stop using notepad and get a real text editor. Step 4 - switch to Linux (OK, I haven't managed this yet either, but I have installed Linux and am trying to get up to speed.)
