.php files display raw, Unparsed.

I installed PHP and Apache. Apache with PHP seems to run smothly and PHP4 is said to be run as SAPI from APache.

But every time I atempt to run any .php file e.g http://localhost/index.php - I get the raw code on the screen instead of the result.

e.g I get <?php phpinfo() ?> instead of the result!!!

PLease help!!

Sounds like you haven't added the application type. Check this line (or one similar) is in your httpd.conf

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml

I am afraid this line is already in the httdp file.

What operating sysetm are you using?
Have you restarted Apache?

Did you add the LoadModule (and add module when using apache 1.3.x) directive(s) to httpd.conf ?

Alternatively look at www.xampp.org. This package contains everything you might need including MySQL and other stuff.
It even allows switching between PHP4 and PHP5 with just one click.

Have you read the relevant entry in the php manual for instaling on Windows with Apache? You can find it here, make sure you read the first comment at the bottom of the page (especially point 3)

Goodness me, Alex, where did you learn such appalling language? I am shocked to my core (2.4.21-99.athlon, in case you're interested).

Guess what - this happened to me too. It's MS's fault - I'd blame Bill. But there's a way round it: use double quotes on any file name you insert in the save dialogue for Notepad, i.e. "php_info.php" and then the automatic .txt ending won't be added. Step 2: change your WinEx settings so that no file endings are hidden. Step 3 - stop using notepad and get a real text editor. Step 4 - switch to Linux (OK, I haven't managed this yet either, but I have installed Linux and am trying to get up to speed.)
