[Resolved] reg_replace AGAIN

I was to eager to place resolved on my last thread, and I feel that no one was going to look at a more advanced issue that I discovered in my earlier problem.

I am trying to create a link from a string of characters like:

See the Cat, Dog, Monkey and Sea Horse.

the animals are actual pages, but the pages are lower case and have no spaces

This Code works for just turning the word into a link to it's page, but - again - I need to make them lower case and without spaces like Sea Horse.

ereg_replace("(Cat|Dog|Monkey|Sea Horse)","<a href="\\1.php>\\1</a>", $string);

Help would be great!🙂

Not sure if I've read this right but you could use the following:

$string = strtolower ($string); // lower case
$string = str_replace ( " ", "", $string); //remove spacing

I have been searching all over the internet for a several hours now.

I've gone to http://www.regular-expressions.info/ in hopes of understanding regular expressions. I have a better understanding but I'm not able to solve the problem at hand.

Yeah, I've tried both of those but that will make the entire string lower case and it will delete all the spaces - including the spaces in the sentence.

I even tried breaking it up into an array, but then I had to specify all the parts of the array that I want to run those functions on, and it would vary because I plan on using on more than one string.

I'm trying to retain the sentence structure, but replace the animal names as links to their respective pages.

no need to call the regexp engine can be done with str_replace

 $string='hi Cat the Dog and Monkey dont ride Sea Horse';
$names=array('Cat','Dog','Monkey','Sea Horse');
foreach($names as $name)
$string=str_replace($name.' ','<a href="'.str_replace(' ','',strtolower($name)).'">'.$name.'</a> ',$string.' ');
echo $string;
