Protecting a directory

Hi

I have a php script that uploads a users photo and puts it into a directory which has permissions set at 777. What is the best way of protecting this directory? The server OS is Apache.

Any help would be appriciated.

Firstly, Apache isn't an OS, it's just a server. A server worthy of being an OS if there is any, though. But, that's besides the point. 🙂

Just use .htaccess. There are examples in the Apache documentation of how to do anything and everything with it.
