PHP for Web Management

I am designing a website and I would like to know how to use php code to manage my website design and structure. I have a web service company that host phpbb on its severs. I intend to use that for my php web forum. I was told that Smarty could be used to help me to create a php based template web structure. I was wondering how Smarty will work with phpbb.

I want to create a website that is built and managed with php code and html, css, etc for the web site contents. I wanted to get this project up and running in a week or so. One reference recommended the importance of using custom php code. I figured that Smarty would help me to setup my php code for my php web design template and phpbb could help me to setup my php forum in a "fast" productive way. I just don't know how to tie all of these tools together to get the job done in a timely fashion. So I'm hoping to get some help here on this form that will get me started off right.

I don't even know what php editing tools to use for this work that will allow me to work as fast as possible. I intend to create a highly graphical website with more of a development focus on the php code management. I also want to set things up so that other php coders can handle the website development work later on.

I can only recommend you take Google and STFW!

Look for articles aout the basics of PHP and what PHP can do for you.

About 99% of us can answer your questions with divering detail (and accuracy for some) so you can't expect a straight forward answer with such a wide scope query such as this you've presented us.

Please don't take this the wrong way but please do a little research in php first.

But...I'll lay a few key points out for you on what php is before you go off trying to set Smarty templates up with PHPbb and create all those graphics :queasy:

PHP is saved within the standard HTML code.
PHP is processed on the server as soon as a user's browser requests to see the page so the contents can be DYNAMIC. The contents of the page are created based on several conditions provided/invoked by the individual users.
This means that you can code you website away with HTML and CSS but then you can insert, for instance the current date in a certain table cell of the webite. You would use ECHO to display the results of the date retrieval code to display as normal text within the document. If the user was to VIEW CODE all they would see would be, e.g.: <p>03 September 2004</p> and NO PHP.

This won't answer your queries -- you need to research PHP a lil more.

Well, hello. Hey, I'm just looking for help here. My intended use of php is just to setup the framework of a php managed website, then later on hire someone to develop it further. I gathered that php can be used for a wide range of applications. I only mentioned a few? I would rather go to a specific php topic based forum for help than muck around the web search engines and try to apply my limited understanding of php issues to a needle in a haystack of php information.

Thanks for the tips. Actually such web articles brought me to this website and forum. There are some very good articles here. So I figured that the forum here was a good place to start. I am a digital media artist so I'm used to working with complex software. I even use open source applications like Gimp which I optimize and compile myself. I'm not new to code based command line computer development I am new to php coding.

I know from an experience of being a member of various development forums that a forum is the best resource for any developer not web search engines. Based on my discussions at other web development forums I gathered that I would need to learn php in order take my html and css driven web site to another level of php developments.

This is the newbie area on the forum and I am new to php.

Try searchign that one through HotScripts

Google is more for those looking for something specific to a need that isn't immediately obvious. Ok Ok changed tone a bit but I've read this forum through a few times to let it sink in properlly.

Smarty seemed like a cool package for this sort of thing. You see, I like to map out a project to the best of my knowledge by collecting everything that I need to take on a project. Then I fill in the blanks from end to end until I reach the middle of a project with whatever I need to collect ad apply to get the job done. Then I tie that off with a rubber band of hacks until I know how to do the job better. Hehe. As I said that I'm an open source software user and I'm used to a sink or swim method of operation. But at the end of it all you have this tremendous amount of control over everything that you do.

At one end I'm eyeballing this part of php and what it can do for this part of my development and then at the other end I'm eyeing another part. To tell you the truth, I am totally hyped up about what I can do from a web service standpoint with php. I kind of gathered that Smarty was a tool to use for building a php web Content Management System from the ground up. I may be wrong. But this little discussion with you at least lets me see where I should focus my energies.

HotScripts is one cool link man. Wow. Yeah I was on one computer development forum and you would see some folks pondering if they should drop out of a computer trade school because the information that we had compiled on the forum was better than the education that they are getting at school. And it's totally free and based on our real world development experiences. Online development forums are the best invention since the web.

I really want to do more than "just" a web Content Management System but I have to start somewhere and my current method of html and css will not meet my needs for the website or my business partners. We want to create a web structure that will house our business and offer web services to similar businesses. It seems to me that php is the obvious choice for developing web services with advanced features and databases from our limited experience with this sort of thing.

I have much work to do and research. I'm looking for anything that will help me to get things done.

Wow, this forum is just full of great info on building a cms! I think that I have found the right forum for the duration of this project.
