Just a note, An0nym0us/. It is the shoddy terminology rife within the MickSoft Wonderland that tripped you up. When someone says 'the Windows directory' in the Windows world, what they actually mean is the windows System directory. Back in the beginning this was actually called C:\Windows, nowdays it is not.
It varies from version to version, but these days you can take it to mean the System32 subfolder in the folder named according to the version you are running: eg WINNT/System32 for W2K etc. The final determination is the environment variable %system%.
