mysql_connect() error: undefined function

Hi. I'm new to PHP and I'm trying to connect to mySQL 4.0.4 beta through PHP 5 but when i run the script there is a fatal error saying that the
function ( mysql_connect() ) is undefined. What could be wrong ???

sounds like you have not loaded the mySQL extension

Yes, it's like devinemke said.

If you are using Windows, you edit the php.ini (do a search for it) and go to the section with Extensions and remove the ; in front of the line that's has php_mysql.dll in it.

If you are using UN*X, you need to compile PHP with --with-mysql=mysql-install-dir, usually --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql

Well, I removed the ; from that line and copied the php_mysql.dll in the Windows folder. When I restarted my pc, php showed an error saying: Unable to load dynamic library './php_mysql.dll' . Documentation said i should put libmySQL.dll in the windows folder. I copied this too but nothing changed. I can't understand why php can't load the php_mysql.dll. It is where it should be.😕

Copy libmysql.dll to the system32 folder. php_mysql.dll doesn't need to be copied to the windows directory. But you need to set the extension_dir configuration directive to the correct path in php.ini like e.g.

extension_dir = c:\php5\ext

Just a note, An0nym0us/. It is the shoddy terminology rife within the MickSoft Wonderland that tripped you up. When someone says 'the Windows directory' in the Windows world, what they actually mean is the windows System directory. Back in the beginning this was actually called C:\Windows, nowdays it is not.

It varies from version to version, but these days you can take it to mean the System32 subfolder in the folder named according to the version you are running: eg WINNT/System32 for W2K etc. The final determination is the environment variable %system%.

For 'Windows directory': Sorry for that but english in not my native language so I
don't know the exact terminology.

About the problem, I put the dll in system32 and I set the correct path in the ini file but a new error appears saying that "the procedure cannot be found". I think I should use php 4 for standard support.
