download file to user without asking

Can anyone tell me how to download a txt file to the users cache without asking the user.

I have tried fread but the user never gets any data.

You can't just arbitrarily put things on a user's computer without asking them.

Unless you work for Microsoft.

I think that is a topic best left undiscussed in this forum... Just in case there are any malicious and prying eyes out there... Just a few words about that... Hijack and malicious JavaScript... The Windows Registry is a dangerous thing. In any respect, it's not really a PHP topic, since it can all be done without PHP.

Well, you know, it's slowly becoming harder for them to do so. Especially now that SP2 actually requires that you approve most everything that is installed on your computer. Hate to say it...but MAYBE they've gotten something right for once over at M$...

OK. Can I make php flash pictures or something and accomplish the same thing.. I guess this would accopmish the same. I tried to accomplish this with fpassthru but my fopen will not open the file, therefore all fails.
