mail function

Hello, I need some help with the mail function.

I was happily using the mail function on my host for a formmail and an autoreply on my forum.

It stopped working after a while and someone told me that I could get it working again by using SMTP

How should I code it so that I can use SMTP?

Have you contacted your host to ask them why the mail function is no longer working? Is it throwing an error or simply doesn't send the mail?

mail() should always work because it uses the sendmail or default mail daemon on the server, which a server should almost always have to parse mail and security logs for it's users.

Rather than write code so that your script can talk SMTP to your mailserver directly, it would probably be easiest to use one of the pre-existing classes for doing this (google for PHP SMTP class). But if mail() has stopped working then, as twilson suggests, the first thing to do is try and find out why.
