Using mail()

Im having some problems using mail(), it just seems to take forever to send the emails to some people, is there a way to either make it go faster or a method to send mail faster than mail()?

are you using it in a loop / calling it multiple times in a short time?
what exactly is "forever"? 5 minutes? 3 days?

Forever may be exaggerated, and its just once per register (not a high traffic place)

Sometimes it takes 5-10 mins +
or others it might take under a minute, for example my Gmail gets it very quickly by my ISP takes quite some time to get it.. other have had the same problems.

So am I doing something wrong or is there a faster way?

i think this issue mainly has to do with a.) the length of your mail queue, b.) the remote server and c.) the trace route of the email. 10 minutes should be tolerable i think - even big websites take a while to deliver the mails every now and then. i know that yahoo email addresses usually are super fast with receiving emails.

I assume you're using SMTP to send the email. If I understand it correctly, the service is scheduled to run every so often; it sounds like yours is scheduled to check for outgoing mail every 10 minutes or so.
