last entry in table

Hello everyone!
How can I retrieve the last entry made in a table.
I have an INSERT statement with an auto increment order id field. I would like to immediately retrieve the last order order id entered. How can this be done. Any suggestions would be great!

Hi,

you didn't write which database you use. In case of MySQL you can use the mysql_insert_id function.

Read the warning on the page above (about executing SQL_INSERT_ID() instead) carefully since mysql_insert_id can return invalid values in some cases.

It was a oracle oci8 but i think the mysql provide quite the same service.
For each table you've got a meta-table which can indicate all you need on the table.
