how to update data

hey guys.

lets say i made a table with so many columns...then populated it...

then... i decide later to add more columns....

now i want to add data to that column for a particular record...

lets say the new column is 'newcolumn'

and the record im tryin to add to has values

aboutmecolumn='newbie'
gendercolumn='male'
newcolumn=''

lets say i want to add 'this is newbies new data' to newcolumn

can anybody tell me the syntax to do that?

UPDATE table SET newcolumn = 'this is newbies new data' WHERE aboutmecolumn = 'newbie' AND gendercolumn = 'male'
