Email check within a message

Ok guys, put on your thinking caps!! Haha, kidding.

Can anyone think of a quick and efficient way to search through an entire variable and anytime there's an email address, link it.

example:

$message = "Hello. My name is John, and my email address is john @ john.com and my sisters email address is sister @ john.com";

The result should be:

Hello. My name is John, and my email address is <a href="[e-mail]">[e-mail]</a> and my sisters email address is <a href="[e-mail]">[e-mail]</a>

Take a look at this: [man]ereg_replace()[/man]

The following code should do what you're looking for:

$text = eregi_replace( "(([a-z0-9_]|\\-|\\.)+@([^[:space:]]*)([[:alnum:]-]))",  "<a href=\"mailto:\\1\">\\1</a>", $text );
