Quicktime Thumbnail?

Hi all,

I am currently writing a simple cms system that allows the upload of quicktime movies. Does anyone know if its possible to extract a frame of the video as a jpeg to be used as a thumbnail?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not natively, and probably not legally. The mov format is proprietary, so you'd have to ask the owners if you can use it.

There may be some tools out there that will ease your doing this, but if I had to take a guess, it would generate a PNG, not a JPEG. (Which should be about equivalent in size but better quality.)
