file name reading

I thought of something to do with a site of mines- let users upload a file, then have it automatically list a file name and link in a table with all the files in that directory. Most of this, i think i can toy with, and figure out how to generate the table/link- but is there a function (or something that you can point me to ) that reads filenames? thanks

Have a look at the Directories section of the manual ... probably what you're after.
