New XML structure for me

Hi,

I usually have no problem reading XML from a aimple feed like

• <item>
  <title></title>
  <link></link>
  <date></date>
  <stad></stad>
  <land>S</land>
  <description></description>
  </item>

But this time is seems a little bit harder and I'm stuck. The XML feed looks like

• <Cathegories>
  • <Cathegory title="FirstOne">
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    </Cathegory>
  • <Cathegory title="SecondOne">
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    </Cathegory>
    ...........
    ...........
    </Cathegories>
• <Products>
  • <Product id="40">
    <Cathegory></Cathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <Title></Title>
    <SMSCode></SMSCode>
    </Product>
  • <Product id="114">
    <Cathegory></Cathegory>
    <SubCathegory></SubCathegory>
    <Title></Title>
    <SMSCode></SMSCode>
    </Product>
    .........
    .........
    </Products>

The tag names are of two different types (Cathegories and Products). I also have to read the id for Products and title for Cathegories.

The XML feed is really long, so reading it into a array is out of question, which was my first idea to do, since it may be easier to process.

Any help is beeing appreciated!!

hmm... but technically an XML document should have only one root element.

Well, that is correct I think. It is not my design and I can't really push for another. Is theirs way to implement this and now it is up to me to figure it out how to use it.....and I have no clue.

So when you're reading the XML in, add a <TheRootTagThatWouldHaveBeenHereIfJoeSmithHadKnownWhatHeWasOnAbout> at the start and a </TheRootTagThatWouldHaveBeenHereIfJoeSmithHadKnownWhatHeWasOnAbout> at the end. Then the document will have only one root element! (the precise name of the tag is more-or-less irrelevant)

(This can be done while you actually are reading, if you're using xml_parse as I'm guessing: the strings of XML you supply don't have to all come from the same source!)
