tpl and php

I was wondering if there is a way tp place php in a .tpl file

I am using phpbb2 with the bbtech template and wanted to add a gallery block to the form

at the end of the overall_header.tpl page I added the following:

     include ('gallery_block.php');
?>

and it is doing nothing any and all help is appricated

I'm also having a problem running php within a .tpl file. I've added .tpl to the Apache config file httpd.conf at line "AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml .pwml .php3 .php4 .php .php2 .inc .html .htm .tpl". This didn't seem to do anything.
