a sort of bookmarking question

Hello
I am making a site where people can view mySQL records. I want them to be able to click to add any number of records to their 'favourites' list. Not favourites as in those stored in the browser, but rather so they can click a button somewhere to sort by the 'favourites' that they have bookmarked.

I don't want people to have to login/register, but can I still do this with cookies? Is this the best way? The favourites can expire once they leave the site. Any advice would be most appreciated!

If you don't want them to log in or register then I would say store their favorites in a single cookie and comma seperate them. Or use an array in a session variable with the serialize and unserialize functions.
